CHOOSE SMALLER EGGS
Instead of choosing the biggest egg, try buying just a few individually wrapped little ones. For example those beautifully wrapped Lindt Milk Chocolate bunnies contains 1088 calories which is over two thirds of your recommended daily energy intake! And once you take a nibble of the ear it can be difficult to stop. So try to opt for smaller individually wrapped treats so you won't be tempted to finish a WHOLE egg.
GO GOR QUALITY NOT QUANTITY
I think the best decision is to pay a little more and purchase a smaller amount of artisan chocolate rather than the mass produced variety. The better the chocolate the more you'll savour EVERY mouthful. When you take time to really enjoy the flavours and textures it slows down the rate at which you eat. Which means you eat less and consume far fewer calories.
CHOOSE DARK CHOCOLATE
There's been loads of studies that have proven dark chocolate varieties to be packed full of health promoting antioxidants which we get the nod of approval from our nutritionist. Another reason why you should opt for dark this easter is because if could suppress your appetite. A study found that young women who ate or even smelled dark chocolate had a decreased appetite. So, make the wiser choice this Easter and choose dark over the milk.
OPT FOR A HOMEMADE EASTER
It way more fun! This year why not have a homemade rule where all Easter treats in the house must come from your kitchen. You could buy chocolate bunny moulds and make fresh hot cross buns. I've actually got a treat for you. 3 homemade Easter treats:
KEEP LEFT OVER EGGS OUT OF SIGHT AND OUT OF MIND
Even though they look pretty, if you place a big bowl of brightly coloured chocolate treats in the coffee table, you will 100% struggle to resist them! Keep them in the top shelf of the cupboard, behind the flour and out of sight, soon you will forget about them. Orrrrrr...try the recipes above with the remaining chocolate left! The orange & chocolate cookies are freezable so you won't have to make all of the batch and save it for a rainy day.
EAT REAL EGGS
Instead of gobbling down on foil-wrapped eggs, celebrate Easter morning by making an egg based meal. Plus eggs fill you up really quickly so you'll consume less later on in the day. To prevent yourself from munching on all the chocolate why not try my English Breakfast Egg Muffins by clicking here.
RETURN TO NORMAL EATING ON TUESDAY
Easter weekend is 4 days long. So keep your festivities to just those FOUR days and return to normal eating by Tuesday. Make a rule you will not consume another Easter off once the public holidays have finished and stick to it. I've given you a freezable cookie recipe with the remaining chocolate you will have so you have no excuses. Take your leftover treats to work, friends, family - they will definitely not last for long in the communal work kitchen! 😂
JUST HAVE FUN
The joys of Easter is to be with family, go for walks, eat the delicious food and enjoy the LONG weekend as much as possible. If you've had a craving don't stop yourself - eat it. But just like every holiday, there's always and end. Back to reality. Reality of going back to work, back to uni/school, back to looking after yourself!
